Yeast diet and Juices

Hello List, What do all of you let your kids drink? We need to avoid grape and apple juice. Alex (our 4 yo) has been drinking white grape juice all his life. Now we need to eliminate grape products. I thought peach or pear juice would be a good idea but every product I find has grape and/or apple juice in it. Does anyone know of a pure peach or peach/pear juice? Do any of you make your own juices? If so what kind of juice extractor do you use. Also, any of you that are on the yeast diet: who's diet do you follow? We are going to have to start the yeast diet in a little over a week and have been looking at different ones. We are leaning toward Dr. Bruce Semon's diet (outlined in Shaw's book) because he lets you remove foods in phases. We thought it might be less painful that way. Also we hope that things get better with phase I or II. We hope we don't have to go "all the way". Thanks for your help. Bill , Charlotte and Alex Toney, Alabama

Hi I buy Gatorade Fruit Punch and Orange. I fill cup 1/4 or less with gatorade and 3/4 water. You can find Pear juice in the baby section, Gerber. Nik wouldn't touch the stuff but many kids love it. My next will be drinking eaither water or VERY watered down pear juice. Hugs, Terry.B

So most of our juices have apple juice or corn. This gets to be more fun all the time. Okay, so I am not so funny. :-( I have not tried the pear juice but was going to. Now I will not waste my time. It is time to get my vita mix juice book out and see if I can make something that Evan will drink, that will also keep for school. Right now he is drinking my attempt at ice cream with one of the DariFree recipes. I think that would have done better in the vita mix also. Probably why my ice cream freezer was such a good price at that yard sale last year. Betty

I think Knudson's makes a juice from just pears, I don't have a bottle right now to check the ingredients. When I was in school, my mom made pear juice with a steam juicer and canned pears in pear juice. I liked that better than the pear juice with pulp, this summer I am buying a steam juicer and will try canning some pear juice as well as bottling pears and fruit cocktail in it. Since you are avoiding apples, you might like pear sauce. I make it by running pears through the Kitchen Aid fruit strainer attachment, putting cheese cloth in the strainer, pouring the pear sauce in and letting the liquid drain until the pear sauce is the desired thickness. It is really flavorful. I canned 30+ 1/2 cup jars of it last summer and have been rationing it so it will last until local pears are available. Joanne

As far as I know Trader Joes brand of pear juice is 100%. Please someone correct me if I'm wrong! Jeannie

It is 2 pieces. The bottom piece holds water, the top piece has a higher area in the middle with some holes and holds the fruit. The top piece has a tube on the bottom that is used to drain the juice. The juicer is put on the stove just hot enough to keep the water producing good steam. I am not sure about cost, probably in the $40-60 range. I saw one at the kitchen supply store last summer but dind't think about doing pear juice for my canned fruit until later. My mom used to do cherry and plum juice also. She would can cherries and plums in their own juice and make plum jelly. I don't like fresh cherries but I like the ones Mom canned, they were worth the hours I used to spend running cherries through the cherry pitter. Joanne
