Storage / Plastics debate
Hi All I would like some opinions on the earlier post.. to plastic or not? When cook-a-thons happen (and that is every weekend..) what do you store in? What I do? I cook the food in bulk and let it cool completely. Then I put in individual plastic SNACK bags a portion for a meal And put all the little snack bags in a large freezer bag and put in freezer on quick freeze. I defrost and heat on plates... NEVER NEVER in the plastic What do you do? thanks for the input Lisa A jeffs mom
What's the debate about plastics? Are they for some reason not safe? And what's the difference between plastic and the plastic bags? I had never heard this one before. For a long time after I watched a program by Dr. David Susuki on the chemicals in plastics and their ability to leach, I did nothing but glass for storing (canning jars usually say if they are safe in the freezer), but have been quite lax lately. Maybe I should go to the web site and check out that particular episode again. (grin) Blessings, BL ****************************** * v'col netivotcha shalom * ******************************

I do believe that was just a preference. What I saw on the CBC program about plastics was that they leech into the foods stored and or warmed in them and can cause alot of chemical toxins to enter the body. I suppose the thought is that these things are not good for children who have already got so many challenges to face. --- In GFCFrecipes@egroups.com, "Brenda-Lee Olson" <Luvee77@y... Was the program talking about all plastics or just those like frozen food trays, soft margarine containers, etc? Even the manufacturer's say to not reheat foods in the microwave in these. Joanne
All plastics Joanne. Dr. Susuki is quite a crusading environmentalist in Vancouver and has an international reputation. Some of his research was European and Asian. I will check his site and see what I can find. BL ****************************** * v'col netivotcha shalom * ******************************
Then what's the difference in plastic containers and plastic bags? Loriann
You could try wrapping things in waxed or parchment paper before wrapping in foil. That might give added insurance against putting tears in the foil. BL ****************************** * v'col netivotcha shalom * ******************************
