EEG Flop
Hi, The EEG was a no-go. Jackson, my 15 mos NT wouldn't fall asleep and I had Mr. Personality for a tech. and he was a HUGE help! It didn't help that I had Jane with me. She loves to hear her "noises" in quiet rooms. I should have known better. It's so hard to find someone to watch her. None of my friends offer any longer. I usually have my dh take off, but that uses lots of vacation. I am having a pity party with me as the guest of honor.....Anyway, rescheduled for Oct. 18. Will try to find alternative for Jane during that time. God never gives us more than we can handle, right?! Janelle
Karen, Thanks for the babysitting offer. How long do you think it would take to get from Houston to your home? :-) Yes, he went to bed at 8 and woke at 4am. I think he would have slept had Jane not been there. It's my fault. I just had to have a pity party. They are allowed once in awhile, right? LOL Actually, we are now thinking maybe we won't have the EEG after all. We are tempted to wait to see if it happens again. It just seems like we have been "putting the kids" through so much with dr., diet, etc.. even though I know it's in their best interest. I know we will end up doing the EEG, esp. since we see the ped. on Fri. She is very conservative, and will probably want a bunch of other tests done as well. Just facing 4 dr. appts this week. UGH. Does it get better after awhile? Seems we are doing a lot of tests to rule out things as we are new in the dx. Ok, enough talk. I need to get the floors swept. Janelle
So sorry for you Janelle. Been there with the 'no can get the kid to sleep EEG' and the office personal who do not have a clue. I hope that you have better luck the next time. We did and I sure hope that we NEVER have to do them again. Betty
Janelle, Hope this makes you feel better . . . I laugh (sort of) about it now but at the time it was a real nightmare. When my 12 year old had his first EEG at 1 year of age, they gave him some sedative stuff to drink, orange stuff, can't recall the name. Anyway, he went bonkers which was routine for him at that age but this incident was much worse. He ran around throwing himself into walls and equipment, causing thousands of dollars worth of damage. (Cole walked at 8 1/2 months so he was very mobile by that time.) Me and two very understanding gals in the EEG lab chased him for quite awhile until we caught him. That was the very first day, I heard the word autism used in reference to my child. One of the gals asked me if he had autism and I looked at her with total ignorance as I didn't have a clue at that time. (We have never gotten that dx, a very long story.) Anyway, at that particular hospital they now boast of a child proof EEG lab due to the little guy several years ago that tore it up. Yep, my kid! According to friends of mine with young children, they still tell the story there of the day my son wrecked the place. Chin up, Janelle, you'll get your EEG, we eventually got ours although we did have to do it under general anesthesia. In recent years we have had more EEGs and those have been done normally, he has improved dramatically since those days!!! Travis underwent an EEG earlier this year. We kept him up half the night to make sure he was sleep deprived. (a task in of itself! the kid never sleeps until you want him stay awake!) Then we steeled ourselves for a morning like what Rhonda described. We were sure he would trash the place, but to our amazement, he allowed the tech to place the eletrodes and then performed like a champ. I guess what I'm saying is: don't sweat it. You'll get a good test sooner or later. Pat in Ohio
That's right you will get a good test sooner or later! I think the biggest part of our problem was the orange stuff they made him drink. I'll bet it wasn't gfcf and looking back I'd bet it had corn sweeteners in it. We now know that makes him violent. Oh well, easy come, easy go, LOL.
