Easy Tootsie Rolls
Easy Tootsie Rolls These are softer than the variety in the store, and they taste even better! Only 10 minutes to make. 2 tablespoons GFCF margarine, softened 1/2 cup unsweeten cocoa powder 3 cups confectioners' sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 3/4 cup instant powdered GFCF milk 1/2 cup white corn syrup OR a little less honey, agave nectar, or other liquid sweetener Mix all ingredients together. Knead like you would for bread. Roll into rope shapes and cut into desired lengths. You can roll into candy wrappers from candy supply store or wax paper cut into small square, roll and twist ends
thank you. Sue :)
HELP! I'm trying to make these and it has been more than 10 minutes and the batter is really really dry. 3/4 cup instant powdered dry milk. You mean just the powder right? sigh. I was hoping to surprise the boys. Not going well here. Joyce
ok, never mind. With some strong hands (which I am now very sore) I was able to "knead" the mix into a ball and then cut into Tootsie Rolls. I wouldn't call these easy, nor would I say 10 minutes. But they are done. Let's see what the boys think. hugs, Joyce Taking it One Day/recipe at a Time with God's help!
Hi My tootsie rolls were just the opposite too wet, I used rice milk instead of dry milk. And yes it took me about 1 1/2 . I ended up making 12 and throwing the rest of the batter out. i am sticking to fudge i know how to make that. :) Sue
Hi All, Just a note to all who were going to try the tootsie roll recipe and thought twice with all the posts regarding how unsuccessful the results were. I just made a batch and the kids are going nuts over them. I did use my vita mix to prepare the dough before I needed it; but I would think a heavy duty food processor or kitchen aid would do the same. Thanks for posting this wonderful recipe, now we have a fun treat for Halloween. Paige in WI
My boys agree! They do like them and are happy, but if you don't have the machine, it is work. Definitely not 10 minutes by hand. ;-) These will be a special treat for us, not a regular thing. hugs, Joyce Taking it One Day at a Time with God's help!
Hi All- I just want to report that my attempt at tootsie rolls was completely successful! These are great! I had to substitute coconut butter for the margerine (cut it by about 1/3), and added a touch extra corn syrup to compensate. I used my KitchenAid to mix, and then kneaded small batches at a time. I didn't take too long at all (wrapping them was the most time consuming...) My hubby and I agree these are better than the real thing.... I can't wait for my son to get some tomorrow... (if there are any left....) I'll be distributing these to neighbors to pass out to my son on Halloween! Niki
