Corn syrup substitue
Our local grocer just started carrying a new product, and it may be of interest to those of you dealing with corn allergies. It is Steen's Pure Cane Syrup- contact info: 1-800-725-1654 CS Steen Syrup Mill PO Box 339 119 Main Street, Abbeville, Louisiana 70510 A sixteen ounce bottle was only 2.99, which seemed very reasonable to me. I am not sure if this will be the regular price, or not. Tonite was the first time I have ever found it at the grocery, and sometimes they run an introductory type price. I just finished making peppermint candy with the syrup and it worked great! Tomorrow I think I will try lollipops or hard candy. I haven't tried it, yet, but I am pretty sure it would be fantastic for making soda using carbonated water, juice concentrate and the syrup, too. I used to make my own simple syrup for making soda, candy, etc.. This will be much more convenient. Diane

Diane Diane, When Karyn Seroussi and I first started ANDI (autism network for dietary intervention) we used to sell food items. It was an enormous amount of work and very hard to do, but we tried because there weren't many items out there for the gluten, casein, corn, soy intolerant. One of the items we carried was cane syrup, and I can tell you that it does indeed work very well for just about anything that calls for corn syrup. We stopped carrying foods early on as we simply couldn't do it (we are only two people and live seven hours apart) but most of the items we carried were taken on by Jay at Miss Robens. I thought that cane syrup was one of them (Jay?) For those who cannot get it at the health food store (I can) it may be available through mail order. My son does ok with corn, but cane syrup is a great replacement for those who don't. LL
