Connection between autism and ADHD??

Could someone please clear something up for me..someone told me yesterday that ADHD and autism are connected possible because of not enough vitamin intake. Could this be possible? Also who has experience with mega doses of vitamins to help autism or ADHD tendencies? Any information about this possible connection is GREATLY appreciated! TIA for any information. Take care, Sue..

It is also not uncommon for other disorders to manifest themselves with characteristics of ADHD (for example CAPD, central auditory processing disorders). You need to be able to see the child's "big picture" in order to determine if ADHD is a stand alone issue or merely a component of some other condition. Hope that helps somewhat. Marian DeSimone

I wasn't asking if an autistic child could also be ADHD. I was asking if there was a common connection between the two..like could an autistic child and a ADHD child both have similiar characterics because of lack of vitamins? I have one child with autism and one child with ADHD and I was told there is a connection concerning vitamins and I wondering if anyone else heard about it. I am sorry for the misunderstanding. Thanks again for your information. Take care, Sue..

Zinc to bring the high copper level down, vitamin c, Cod Liver Oil, probiotics and most recently ProEFA from Nordic Naturals. I must say, that the ProEFA has made a very big difference. I noticed the very day we started it, a big improvement in speech (sentences that actually related to what we were talking about) and just more of a sense of him being there, if you know what I mean. I also give a LOT of credit to the diet, especially in the potty dept. We are also getting ready to start chelation due to a heavy metal load. Jane Mama to Erik 4 1/2yrs (PDD-NOS) & Julie 18 mo

Jane, Hi, I was reading your post about vitamins. Have you stopped taking the cod liver oil with the proEFA? I haven't heard of that. Have there been some previous posts for me to read about. I have an Eric too on the diet and supplements. We just started zinc about 3 days ago. I started it to help the immune system with colds and winter coming and I really think I saw improvements in him, but of course I didn't think just adding zinc would do it. I didn't know if helped the high copper level. How much proEFA do you use? Why do you think it helped? TX Tons, Jen

With the zinc, I am using a liquid zinc sulfate (25 mg daily in 2 doses in citrus juice). I did not stop the CLO with the ProEFA. We are doing the vitamin A/bethanecol therapy and are due to start the bethanecol in about a week. The ProEFA dose is about 1/2 capsule at this time. I am not too sure about the dose on this one and am starting out slowly until I get some good info on this. I have had several different opinions on this and will decide when I have more research behind me. I believe it has helped with speech mostly. Erik has been saying words, that he never said before and having more of a conversation with us, less ecolialic. He is also playing more independently and seems to get things more than before. I keep holding my breath, thinking it won't last, but so far he is staying the course. It was almost like a switch was turned on when I gave him the ProEFA, very strange. I definitely think the combination of the diet with the supplements is a key thing here. And to do them separately, so you know if there is a negative (or positive)reaction to anything. I also think the type of zinc and the method of administering is key for max absorption. Jane Mama to Erik 4 1/2yrs (PDD-NOS) & Julie 18 mo

Hi Jane, Could you tell me what is ProEFA and where do you get it? HFS or internet? Most importantly, how does it taste? I am trying to get EFA's into my son but there's no way any fishy smelling stuff is getting in.Thanks for any info...Nancy
