advice on breastfeeding
Thanks to all who responded. I guess that's a unanimous "Yes you should go GFCF" from all respondents. So, this will give me even more incentive to make tastier GFCF dishes. My 2yr old is not that picky. I would like to ask Lesley in particular what are LCPs and what does a diet high in Omega 3 and 6 include? Thanks again kris
Kris, LCPs are the long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids, and are essential for our nerve cells to function effectively and the neurological pathways in the brain require an abundance of them. Our bodies cannot make them, not even for in our breast milk, and therefore they must come from our diet. Oily fish, such as tuna, salmon, mackerel are good, as well as dark green leafy vegetables, eggs, flax seed oil, and hemp oil are very rich sources. It is worth spending a little time reading up on nutrition. Much research in to autism has proven a lack of LCPs, which is why many of these children are given a supplement such as Efalex. I hope this helps. When I went totally GFCF for a period, I found that I had mad cravings for pasta and bread - it felt a bit like I should imagine going cold turkey would be like, so be prepared as I think it takes about 3 weeks to clear your system. Good luck Lesley.
